Welcome to Ice Energy Ground Source Heat Pumps
Ground Source Heat Pumps
Imagine never having to worry about turning your heating controls down to save money. Imagine your home being constantly warm and comfortable. Imagine a heating system that uses renewable energy, requires no regular maintenance and is completely safe with no local greenhouse emissions.
Welcome to your Heat Pump from Ice Energy
Heat Pumps work by collecting heat from your garden and moving it in to your home. Because you are moving heat rather than creating it by burning gas or oil the system is much more efficient. For every 4kw of heat moved in to the house only 1kw of electricity is used
Heat pumps collect heat from the garden by a series of pipes buried at 1 metre deep containing a water glycol mix at low temperature. The surrounding soil is higher in temperature and gently heats the glycol mix as it is pumped around the ground loop. The heat pump then works in a similar way to a fridge. It takes the heat from the ground loop and uses it to supply all your hot water and central heating needs.
GROUND WORKS
The Ground Source Heat Pump ground works are a vital part of each heat pump installation. The options vary depending on the amount of land and budget available.
COMPACT COLLECTORS
The patented compact collector allows a ground loop to be installed when space is at a premium. The collectors can be buried horizontally to reduce the depth of the ground works or vertically to reduce the area required. Compact collectors can be joined together in rows to fulfil the needs of each heat pump.
HORIZONTAL GROUND LOOPS
Straight ground loops consist of one or more lengths of pipe with a flow end and a return end, brought together in a manifold. The manifold is then connected to the heat pump with a single flow and return pipe.
Slinky ground loops are used to reduce the amount of land required. As more energy is absorbed from the same area it is important to
BORE HOLES
Bore holes offer a solution where very little land is available. A vertical hole is drilled to depths of up to 80 metres. Sometimes more than one bore hole is required. A ground loop is then inserted and connected to the heat pump.
